Forty Cups Of Coffee was written by Danny Overbea and recorded by Ella Mae Morse on Capitol F2539. Dave Cavenaugh wrote the arrangement and provided the studio orchestra. We have augmented our transcription up to a full 5444 big band line-up without losing the feel, flavour and intent of the original chart. We have included the little Guitar licks on the part, and have cross-cued them onto the Piano part in case your band doesn't include a Guitarist. The Drum licks and fills are notated "as-played" on the original recording too. The vocal part is likewise notated "as-sung" by Ella Mae. This chart has a very relaxed, bluesy feel and the band backings compliment, rather than hinder, the vocalist. The brass ranges are fairly moderate, although Trumpet 1 is written to a high F at the close. We have included ossia closing notes on the Trumpet parts, to lower the ranges a little. There are no sax doubles and the vocal key is Ab throughout.
