Gene Krupa recorded over eighty tracks for Capitol Records in 1946-1947. These sessions were later released, along with over sixty Harry James tracks, as the Capitol Vaults Jazz Series. Included in this compilation is "He's Funny That Way", written by Neil Moret with lyrics by Richard Whiting. The arrangement was originally penned by Ed Finckel (of 'Leave Us Leap' fame) and it is written as a lush and dreamy vocal ballad, full of tonal colour and rich harmonic backgrounds. The chart is scored as a vocal feature throughout, with no instrumental solos. This allows your vocalist to take centre stage and shine. The brass ranges are moderate, with lead Trumpet written to high C# and Trombone 1 to A above the clef. There are no sax doubles. Although the notes aren't hard, at this tempo your band will need good intonation, plus plenty of vibrato from the reeds to add some shimmer to their backings. The vocal key is G.
