I'm Beginning to See the Light

Here is our transcription of this great standard as performed by Frank Sinatra on his 1962 Reprise album "Sinatra and Swingin' Brass". Neal Hefti wrote the original arrangement and conducted the studio orchestra. The chart makes good use of a repeating muted brass phrase which echoes and supports the vocal line several times during the arrangement. It is used for the opening sixteen measures of the first vocal chorus before the saxes take up the support during the middle eight. Then the brass are back for the last eight before opening up for an ensemble half-chorus which features two Tenor solos that come in response to the ensemble statements. The vocal re-enters for the classic chromatic descent that is the middle eight, supported by two measure phrases from sections in the band. A re-statement of the first sixteen measures of the arrangement brings proceedings to a close. There are no sax doubles and the vocal key is G throughout.
